Today, May 26, in European capital of Culture 2015 - Mons - takes place symposium "The Mons 2015", dedicated to Cultural Crossovers and technologies. At symposium will participate Sandis Voldins representing Latvian Minister of Culture, and Rasa Smite - Latvian artist and curator, founder of RIXC, who will introduce creative networking by RIXC, as well as other novelty art practices by RIXC artists, who work on the crossovers with science and technology since 90s.

The morning sessions, entitled « Content Is The Key », will be dedicated to crossovers from culture to innovation in society with a particular focus on social innovation in citizen practices. It will go through the involvement of citizens in their cultural practices, digital training, the access to knowledge, the inputs from cultural makeathons and the new usage of content.

The afternoon will focus on crossovers from the arts to innovation in the industry with a session entitled “Creativity Is The Key”. This part will be sub-divided into two panels dedicated to crossovers from culture and the arts to innovation in society and industry for the former and to innovation at the nexus of science, technology and the arts for the latter. These panels will go through creativity and critical thinking, innovation stimulation, conversion of science and technology knowledge, and the new European Commission STARTS programme.

Creativity and critical thinking are essential for innovation in today’s digital world.The Latvian presidency of EU therefore emphasises links between the Arts and innovation and creativity as the key for innovation in the presidency conclusions ’cultural and creative cross-overs to stimulate innovation, economic sustainability and social inclusion’.
