Friday, December 13, at 17:00 in the RIXC gallery will take place the opening of the exhibition “Reference Metadata” by Gustavs Lociks.

Nowadays the artificial intelligence continue to develop at great speed. It is being widely applied in internet and even being used in various everyday technologies, starting from the Youtube recommendations to self-driving cars of brand like Tesla. The artificial intelligence in situations like this is considered to be an assistant or an algorithmic work automator, that,  without disturbing the user, works unnoticed. However, even if it is seemingly functioning without any problems, mostly to ordinary people the mechanics of the process stay unclear - not only in terms of working, but also in terms of their functional purpose.

In the exhibition Gustavs Lociks is exploring direct and indirect influence of the artificial intelligence and the current of information on human psyche and public discourse. The exhibition consists of visual graphic collages, which were created using several classical digital processing and creation techniques and artificial intelligence generative capabilities, and of sound installation where artificial intelligence generates sound from various radio transmissions.

Gustavs Lociks (1996) is a new media artist from Liepaja, who has graduated from the new Media Art study program at Liepaja University and is interested in the specifics of manipulation and synthesis of various visual and audio media content. The artist often uses a variety of software tools to create abstract textures and digital landscapes for his work. Currently in his works artist is focusing on researching the potential of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) in the creative industry.

The exhibition is open to visitors until February 1, 2020.

Supported by State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia, Riga City Council, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
