The [out of sync] Images from the Ether exhibition is on view at the RIXC Gallery until Saturday, May 16! “What is the connection between Plato, VHS tapes, a screen, and the cosmic order? Perhaps we can try to find answers to this question in artist Mārtiņš Ratniks’ exhibition “[out of sync] Images from the Ether," where the human presence in the image remains secondary, while fragments, media archaeology, and the unseen aspects of everyday life take center stage.
Artist Mārtiņš Ratniks’ work certainly cannot be viewed in isolation from the development of new media art in Latvia. Although it emerged relatively recently, at the end of the 20th century, when two parallel lines of historical development—contemporary art and modern technologies—converged, what we see in the works of new media artists very often reflects much broader trends not only in contemporary art or technology, but also in our understanding of our time, our perception of the world, and what it means to be human.”
