The RIXC Art Science Festival 2026: Climate Imagination, will take place at the National Library of Latvia and online from October 20 to 22, 2026, featuring a symposium, European Media Art Platform (EMAP) workshops, and other events. The festival’s central event is the exhibition: Climate Imagination, featuring artworks by more than 10 international artists, which will be on view at the National Library of Latvia from October 20 to December 13, 2026.
The 2026 RIXC Art Science Festival explores Climate Imagination as a cultural and scientific field where art, technology, and environmental research intersect. As climate change reshapes ecosystems, infrastructures, and everyday life, imagination becomes a critical capacity for sensing, understanding, and rethinking our relationships with the Earth.
The festival aims to gather together artists, researchers, and practitioners working across artistic, technological, and environmental fields. Projects may engage with themes such as ecological processes, climate data and sensing technologies, nature–culture relations, plant and microbial life, artificial and natural intelligences, atmospheric and oceanic systems, and Baltic Sea ecologies.
The exhibition and events aim to create multisensory encounters with environmental change, exploring how artistic practices—from immersive media and XR to data visualization, bio-art, sound art, environmental sensing, and speculative design—can expand how climate processes are perceived and imagined.
Alongside the exhibition, the festival will host a Baltic STS workshop-meeting, bringing together researchers from the Baltic–Nordic region to discuss climate knowledge, environmental sensing, and socio-technical infrastructures. The program will also include an EMAP (European Media Art Platform) workshop, connecting the festival to broader European art–science collaborations.
