The Zoom In: Ecology exhibition features nine reflections on the convergence of humans with digital technologies and/or nature, exploring digital activities impact ecosystems, natural resources, and human nature, including the Atmospheric Forest artwork by Rasa Šmite and Raits Šmits.

The RIXC Art Science Festival "Plants Intelligence" has been nominated for the Annual Art Award of Latvia in the "Event of the Year 2025" category - the winner will be announced and the award presented on April 18 in Valmiera.

Rasa Šmite and Raitis Šmits will participate in the 3rd "Dzīvotnes" mini-festival of the "Kantastrofa" program with an artist talk and the Atmospheric Forest VR artowrk The mini-festival"s theme will bring together critical speculations about the future—about the environment in which we would like to live in ecological, technological, and sociopolitical terms.

The exhibition presents video works developed through years of experimental practice, combining analogue and digital video technologies.

The beginning of 2026 marks a significant event in the Latvian visual arts- for the first time, the nominees for the new national award, the Latvian Art Award (LMGB), are announced.

On February 7, a new art and research laboratory opened at 12 Aristīda Briāna Street, offering an alternative education program dedicated to sound art, music, new and old media, and audiovisual experiments.

The European Media Art Platform (EMAP) invites artists, artist duos, collectives, and artistic collaborations working in digital, media, robotic, and bio art to apply for a two-month production residency in 2026.

On November 4, Rasas Šmite and Raits Šmite will give a public talk at Södertörn University in Stockholm, followed by the opening of their VR installation Atmospheric Forest on November 6.

In her lecture Rasa Smite will talk on her research and 'multisensory ecological knowledge'; as a part of the Interfacing Ecologies Lecture Series at ZHdK, Zurich.

After the RIXC Art Science Festival 2025: Plants Intelligence in Riga, the Plants_Inteligence Symposium will take place in Basel, organized by the RIXC partners, Plants_Intelligence team:Yvonne Volkart, Felipe Castelblanco, Julia Mensch and Rasa Smite. It marks the conclusion of the four-year research project "Plants_Intelligence. Learning Like a Plant", which is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and based at the Institute Art Gender Nature (IAGN) at HGK Basel.
